Stressed-out Croydon carers to receive well-deserved break this Carers Week

Croydon’s hard-working carers are invited to attend free wellbeing events at the Carers Support Centre this Carers Week (10-16 June).

Residents supporting friends and family with a disability or illness can enjoy a managing stress workshop, Tai Chi, dance, singing, poetry, art and a wellbeing Café.

Carers can also visit Thornton Heath Library on Monday 10 June between 11am-1pm, and Croydon University Hospital between 1.30pm-3.30pm, for free information and advice on their caring role.

The free events will take place at the Carers Support Centre, a drop-in centre for carers jointly-funded by The Whitgift Foundation and Croydon Council.

There are over 33,000 unpaid carers in Croydon - around 10% of the local population.

Helen Thompson, Carers Support Centre manager, said:

“Carers do such an amazing job looking after friends and family who rely on them for support, and Carers Week is a great opportunity to give something back to these hard-working Croydon residents.

Caring can be rewarding, but it can also be extremely stressful. Research by Carers UK suggests that 72% of carers face poor mental health and 61% have physical health issues.

I’d encourage anyone in the borough who thinks they may be a carer to visit the Carers Support Centre. We are here to help.”

A full timetable of free Carers Week events and booking details can be found on the Carers Information Service’s website:
